Zain Davids Set to Celebrate 50th Tournament Milestone for Blitzboks in Perth

Published on

Zain Davids, a mainstay of the Springbok Sevens, is preparing to achieve a significant milestone this weekend as he competes in his 50th HSBC SVNS tournament for the Blitzboks.

Davids first donned the iconic green and gold jersey on January 28, 2017, in Wellington, New Zealand. Reflecting on his journey, the 27-year-old expressed his excitement about reaching this landmark moment.

“Making my debut was the greatest feeling, as it was the first time I lived my dream of representing my country,” said Davids from Perth.

“Playing in my 50th tournament will be pretty close to that feeling because I never thought this would be possible. The greatest joy is that I still love every moment of it—playing for my country, my family, and our amazing supporters.”

Davids joins an elite group of Blitzboks who have achieved this milestone, including legends like Branco du Preez, Chris Dry, and Kyle Brown.

As the co-captain for the weekend, Davids emphasized his focus on performing for his team and building on their success from the previous tournament in Cape Town, where the Blitzboks emerged victorious.

“We have a clear objective this weekend: to keep improving. The format has changed slightly with the return of quarter-finals, but our mentality remains the same. We’re here to win and take our game to the next level,” Davids said.

The experienced forward will anchor a formidable lineup that includes fellow 50+ club members Ryan Oosthuizen and Siviwe Soyizwapi. Meanwhile, newcomer Zander Reynders, playing in only his second tournament, will have the benefit of learning from seasoned teammates.

“Zander will be fine—he’s got the talent. It’s up to us as experienced players to help him settle in and perform,” Davids added.
