Mitchell’s Plain Police detectives are still searching for the gunmen, who shot and killed a 3-year-old girl this week.

The little girl was travelling in a vehicle, on the corner of Highlands Drive and Eisleben Road on Wednesday, when suspects opened fire.

The child’s mother, and another victim were also wounded during the attack.

The Cape Flats Safety Forum’s chairperson,  Abie Isaacs says urgent intervention’s needed,  as innocent children cannot keep dying at the hands of brazen criminals.

“We want to extend our condolences to the bereaved family. We note with concern that these urban terrors, as we call it, is out of proportion. There seems to be no political will from any of the political parties, in the Western Cape, to deal with the urban terror. We are sick and tired of condemning. We need clear action. There are more people dying on the Cape Flats, than in the war in Ukraine, ” says Isaacs.

The community leader added that the killers need to be brought to book:

“We cannot have a situation where we consistently have to go out and extend condolences, where innocent children are consistently getting caught in the crossfire, in terms of the urban terror, specifically gang violence on the Cape Flats, ” says Isaacs.

Western Cape Police spokesperson Frederick Van Wyk said that a case of murder and two cases of attempted murder are under investigation.

“The motive for the shooting at this stage is not known and forms part of the investigation, ” adds Van Wyk.
