WATCH: Newcastle vs Man City – Spectacular Stalemate at St. James

Published on

Newcastle United outplayed the defending champions, Man City for a majority of their English Premier League third-round meeting at St James’ Park, to earn themselves a point. While it’s just one point, it’s one that will have massive implications on what will be a season where the title could go anywhere.

The season is three weeks old, but the door is wide open for anyone to capitalize on the poor performances of most of the big six outfits. At the moment, that club is Arsenal. Consistent performances see them at the peak of the table, and the only club at this stage to win three from three.

Smaller clubs are stepping up

It might be unfair to put the blame on any club for just being outright poor. After all, they are playing against professionals. There are a couple of the smaller clubs that have been putting in the work, and they’re seeing the fruits of their labour.

One of those clubs is the Magpies, Newcastle United. Going into this past weekend’s fixture with Manchester City, no one was giving them a chance. While they’re not the fully polished outfit yet, Newcastle showed how dangerous they can be when things click.

Renewed Newcastle

After the Citizens took the lead just five minutes into the match, the entire footballing fraternity would have expected that it would be business as usual. A comfortable stroll to victory. However, the Magpies dug deep and got themselves back in the game, and then some.

Newcastle took a two-goal lead and looked poised to steal all three points. Unfortunately for the capacity crowd at St. James’ Park, Champions will do as champions do. Man City managed to draw the score level, and Newcastle could hold out for the draw.

The match had everything you would want as a football fan. Spectacular goals, fantastic interplay, and an insane amount of passion.
