UPDATE: Two luxury cruise liners visit Cape Town

Two luxury cruise liners are visiting Cape Town.  The Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria both docked at the Cape Town cruise terminal in the early hours of Friday morning 12 April.

it’s the first time that the two luxury liners have docked in Cape Town at the same time.

 

They collectively bring thousands of passengers to the city. They stay here for a day or 2.

 

Two luxury cruise liners in the Mother City

 

Some get off and others get on. At the same time, some passengers disembark to take part in tourist activities. Among other things, they also replenish their supplies here.

 

The Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, Alderman James Vos says, “In addition, for every 30 arriving cruise passengers, the Western Cape cruise industry created one full-time job.”

The City of Cape Town says the City has seen exceptional growth as a cruise tourism destination.

Exceptional cruise tourism destination

 

On average, between 35 and 40 cruise ships arrive at our port between the years 2016 and 2019. But this number has jumped to 67, for the 2023/2024-season.

 

He added, “This is a sector of tourism that is deeply valuable for us with research by Wesgro revealing that cruise tourism injected R1,2 billion into the Western Cape economy between November 2022 and May 2023.”

According to the company Cunard, she’s a remarkable flagship and her style and elegance are legendary.

This true icon flagship can take 2 691 guests. Her crew is 1 173-people strong. She is 1 132 feet in length.

 

Vos concluded, “The City will continue working closely with its partners to make Cape Town stand out on the global cruise travel map.”

 

The City is a big supporter of the Cruise Cape Town initiative. This project is administered by Wesgro, which promotes our destination as one of choice for the cruise travel market.

The vessel can take 2 061 guests. Her crew is 913 people strong. She is 1964.5- feet in length.
