There’s a new steamy passion and TV drama
According to the team, who are bringing the series here, Plaas van Passie tells the story of Aline (Barbara Reis), a math teacher, whose husband, Samuel (Ítalo Martins), is murdered on their farm because thugs want his land.
“We are looking forward to the very first dubbed Brazilian telenovela in Afrikaans, Plaas van Passie, which will start on kykNET&kie in March,” says Janine Cornelius, senior manager of scheduling and planning at kykNET.

Despite having no experience with farming, Aline decides to do everything she can to keep the farm for herself and her son, João (Matheus Assis). This she will do with the help of her faithful friend Jonatas (Paulo Lessa) and with the support of her mother, Jussara (Tatiana Tibúrcio). Her biggest opposition comes from the land baron Antônio La Selva (Tony Ramos). He’s the man responsible for Samuel’s death.
Telenovelas, increasingly popular
At the same time, there’s also complicated love in the air when her path crosses with Daniel (Johnny Massaro), Antônio’s only son. Things get even more complicated when Caio (Cauã Reymond), Daniel’s half-brother who is as different from him as day and night, also has his sights set on Aline. Caio’s mother, Agatha (Graça Junqueira), died at birth, and Antônio has never forgiven him for it.
Cornelius added, “It promises to be full of drama, betrayal, love triangles, suspense and more than enough passion.”
Irene (Glória Pires), Antonio’s wife and Daniel and Petra’s (Débora Ozório) mother, as well as Caio’s stepmother, is power-hungry and will do anything to ensure that only Daniel and Petra take over the family business.
The Afrikaans voices in the TV drama
The players who provide the Afrikaans voices are Claudia Jones (Aline), De Waal Stemmet (Caio), Rowlen von Gericke (Daniel), Andreas Jordaan (Antonio), Elma Potgieter (Irene), Donovan Petersen (Jonatas), Ilse Klink (Jussara) and Jacky Carpede (Menah, Jonatas’ sister).
She says, “The characters are diverse and complex.”
The original Portuguese title of the telenovela is Terra e Paixão (Land of Desire in English). kykNET&kie becomes the first channel in South Africa to dub a Brazilian telenovela into Afrikaans.
