The SA Agulhas II team have been globally recognised for their discovery of a shipwreck that sunk to the bottom of Antarctica’s Weddell Sea more than 100 years ago.

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment says 65 scientists and explorers set sail from Cape Town just over a month ago in search of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship Endurance, which was trapped and crushed by ice and sank in the Weddell Sea in 1915. Departmental spokesperson, Albi Modise says the wreck was found over the weekend.
