The Honest Truth: Freedom Walkers are custom-built for kids with a variety of special needs, yet who all have one thing in common – the desire to walk.

Derek Boshard, inventor of the Freedom Walters, joined Benito Vergotine in studio on Tuesday 13 August on The Honest Truth, to share the story behind these nifty gadgets with us.

Listen to the conversation with Derek here: Freedom Walkers – mobility for children with disabilities

Freedom Walkers are custom-built for kids with a variety of special needs, yet who all have one thing in common – the desire to walk. This affordable walking device is a great option for any parent wanting something to help their child gain some freedom, without it costing too much.

Derek’s story:

Our precious Erin is the inspiration for the Freedom Walker. Diagnosed just after her first birthday with Chromosome 15q Duplication Syndrome (#Dup15q) , we soon learned that the future was going to be quite different to what we had hope for. Helping her to achieve mobility became a priority, yet the products available were beyond our means. After numerous iterations, I arrived at the current design which utilizes 40mm Class 16 uPVC pipe and fittings that provide a strong, durable walking frame. It is our privilege to help other families in need and we’re excited for the journey ahead!

The philosophy is simple: Let’s explore! And this doesn’t have to cost a fortune. We want to enable kids with disabilities to freely roam their world.
