The Constitutional Court has granted Parliament a 6-month extension of the deadline it gave it, to amend the Electoral Act to allow independent candidates to stand in national and provincial elections.

The apex court handed down judgment yesterday and its reasons will follow at a later date. The deadline was due to expire on 10 June but has now been extended to 10 December.
