Several communities in the province are still without electricity, following the past weekend’s storms. Meanwhile, technicians from Eskom as well as the City of Cape Town are hard at work, trying to restore the power.
Several communities are still without power
Gale-force strong winds, along with heavy rain have wreaked havoc across the province, in recent days. The strong gusts of wind also fanned fires in informal settlements. Formal dwellings on farms and in the city were razed in other blazes.
Stormy weather conditions
The utility company says many outages and faults were caused by the stormy weather conditions. Areas that are affected include farms in Stellenbosch, Kylemore and Beaufort West, as well as parts of Kraaifontein and Khayelitsha
Blackouts were also reported in Lynedoch, Sir Lowry’s Pass, in Somerset West and the surrounding areas, including Nomzamo and Sandvlei. The electricity giant says the estimated times for the restoration of electricity to these areas have not yet been determined.
Black South Easter wreaks havoc
Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town says its teams have been working tirelessly to restore the power in the Metro, also adversely affected by the recent Black South Easter.
The City’s Beverley van Reenen says the power is still out in some areas in Philippi, Crawford, Grassy Park and Brackenfell.
Eskom teams
The Eskom Media Office says technicians are attending to the faults, but it should be noted that the amount of faults due to the storms has left a significant backlog that their response teams are working through.
