President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that Lieutenant-General Rudzani Maphwanya has been appointed the Chief of the South African National Defence Force, and will assume office on 1 June. Major-General Thalita Mxakato will also be the Army’s new Chief of Defence Intelligence, making her the first woman to be appointed to the Military Command of the SANDF.
