The Honest Truth: Premier Winde calls for help from the army to stop gang violence

Published on

Western Cape crime requires multi-pronged approach which should include SANDF peacekeeping.

Premier Alan Winde joined Liesl Smit in conversation on The Honest Truth on Wednesday evening, calling for the SANDF to stop crime in the Western Cape.

Last Friday, Minister of Police, Bheki Cele was quoted in the press as saying that the crime situation in the Western Cape is not bad enough to warrant the deployment of the army to the province. But the reality is that 2302 people have been murdered in the province between November 2018, when the anti-gang unit was launched, and May this year.
