Police vehicles’ tyres slashed in Ottery

The Grassy Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) is calling for the attacks on police vehicles to come to an end.

On Saturday, Grassy Park police officers responded to a complaint in Ottery. When they tried to leave, they discovered that the tyres were slashed. The criminals are yet to be arrested. The forum’s deputy chairperson, Nicole Jacobus says in the past the state vehicles were thrown with paint, torched or pelted with stones.

“I find this extremely disappointing and unacceptable because these are the very same people who complain that the police or additionally emergency services are taking too long to attend to complaints,” said Jacobus.

The CPF says it wants teachers, church leaders and other community leaders to ask people to refrain from such destructive behaviour.

“We are all concerned about the high level of crime. Our community leaders are requested to speak about this in their various institutions. Furthermore, we call on our community to say something when they see somebody vandalising property. Damaging a police vehicle is an attack on the State,” concluded Jacobus.
