Deputy editor at STUFF Magazine, Duncan Pike says while it’s still early days, he’s positive the website and its offerings will improve over time:
“It’s been a long time coming. It’s a good thing. More competition is also good for the consumer and in the same breath Takealot and the local competition is going to have their work cut out for them, in trying to either keep up or compete with Amazon’s offerings,” said Pike.
The deputy of the well-known consumer electronics magazine added that he has checked out the online store. He noted that there wasn’t much of a price drop when it came to many products, however he reiterated his confidence that the site will improve as time progresses.
Robert Koen, the managing director of Sub-Saharan Africa at Amazon expressed his elation following the launch:
“We are excited to launch Amazon.co.za, along with thousands of independent sellers in South Africa. We provide customers with great value, broad selection—including international and local products—and a convenient delivery experience. From today, customers can count on Amazon.co.za for a stress-free shopping experience, fast and reliable delivery, access to 3,000 pickup points, 24/7 customer support, and easy returns. Customers will also enjoy free delivery on their first order,” said Koen.
