OMTOM NEW ROUTE: WHAT MOTORISTS NEED TO KNOW

Published on

PRESS STATEMENT: With the rerouting of the Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra Marathon to Ou Kaapse Weg a number of roads and traffic flows will be affected.  The Ultra Marathon will follow its original route along Main Road between Newlands and Fish Hoek then proceed along Kommetjie Road and to Ou Kaapse Weg through Sun Valley.

From there runners will tackle Ou Kaapse Weg and, turning left at Steenberg Road, will proceed along Orphen and Spaanschemat River Roads to join the Half Marathon route at Ladies Mile and then head on to the finish at UCT.

Whilst it is desirable that vehicles dont travel along these routes, to provide access for those that have to travel to or from the South Peninsula controlled one way flow systems will be implemented as follows:

  1. Main Road between Banks Rd in Fish Hoek and Windsor Rd in Kalk Bay will be a one way system with runners using the westbound (towards Simonstown) lane and vehicles only allowed to proceed eastwards towards Kalk Bay where they will be directed onto Boyes Drive between 07h00 and 09h45.
  2. Ou Kaapse Weg will now be a one way system with the northbound lane (direction Cape Town) reserved for the runners and the southbound lane reserved for traffic heading southwards.  This system will operate between 06h00 and 12h00.
  3. Between Ou Kaapse Weg and Ladies Mile on Steenberg Rd, Orpen Rd and Spaanschemat River Rd vehicles will only be permitted to travel southwards with runners staying to their left using the northbound (direction Cape Town) lane.

No vehicles should park along any of these routes.

In addition, the following roads that would have been closed only for the Half Marathon will now be closed for longer periods to accommodate the Ultra Marathon:

  1. Ladies Mile between Spaanschemat River Road and Constantia Main Road (06h00 to 12h45)
  2. Parish Road (06h15 to 13h00)
  3. Southern Cross Drive (06h15 to 13h15)
  4. The intersection of Constantia Main Road with Ladies Mile and Parish Road will be closed between 06h15 and 10h00 with a Stop/Go control in place thereafter.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and request that motorists exercise patience and drive with caution for one of Cape Towns premier events.
