Moscow’s chief Rabbi leaves Russia amidst pressure to support its ‘special operation’ in Ukraine

Moscow’s chief Rabbi, Pinchas Goldschmidt, who has been in the position since 1993, has left Russia following pressure to support the country’s invasion of Ukraine – which he refused. Jewish organisations in Russia have struck a critical tone on the war in Ukraine, compared to other religious groups – including the powerful Orthodox Church, which has supported the campaign.
