The City’s Law Enforcement agencies arrested three people while on patrol in Parow on Sunday, after finding drugs in their possession. Metro police officers allegedly spotted a vehicle with three occupants speeding past them.
Officers advised the motorist to stop, but he initially refused and kept on driving. He later complied after officers activated their lights and sirens. When approaching the vehicle, the officers got a strong smell of dagga coming from inside the vehicle.
They promptly called for K9 assistance to conduct a search of the vehicle to uncover any illegal substances presumed to be inside the vehicle.
Following the search, K9 Khalesi uncovered 42 packets of methamphetamine (tik), 29 packets of marijuana, and three packets of cocaine in a plastic bag concealed in a compartment of the vehicle.
Following the discovery, the driver attempted to bribe the officers, but he and his two passengers were arrested for drug possession. Additionally, the driver faced bribery charges.
The suspects, aged 39, 45, and 63, were taken into custody at Parow SAPS.
“Our two-legged and four-legged officers continue to make inroads on the drug trade flooding our neighbourhoods. Every drug taken off the street is potentially someone saved from an overdose or prevented from taking that first hit and becoming addicted.” – Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith
These were just a few of the arrests made by Metro Police officers this past week. According to the City, officers made a total of 54 arrests of which 41 were for the possession or sale of drugs.
