Mega yacht docks in Cape Town

The World, recognised as the largest privately owned residential mega yacht, has docked outside the Table Bay Hotel, at the V & A Waterfront. The vessel is on a journey to 6 continents. It’s here for an extended 5-day visit and will leave on Sunday night (8 pm).

The World, Residences at Sea serves as both a vessel and a vibrant residential community. On it, you will find residents from 40 countries. The ship will leave on the 3rd of March at 8 pm, first to Mossel Bay and then on to Durban.

Several South African families also live on The World. One of them, who did not wish to be named, says the ship is unique.

He added, “In my opinion, having a private apartment on The World is far better than, and less challenging than, the responsibilities associated with private ownership of one’s own super yacht.”

There’s a diverse range of living options for those sailing on the World. This includes cosy studios and spacious apartments.

The mega yacht was launched in 2002 and is 196 metres long. It’s manned by a crew consisting of 280 professionals. This ship is the only one of its kind in operation.

There are many amenities onboard for residents. They can, among others, visit world-class restaurants, a state-of-the-art fitness centre or a cutting-edge golf simulator.

 

“We as shareholders decide and establish the ship’s annual itinerary of countries to visit well in advance, and include expeditions to remote areas.”

At the same time, residents can decide if they want to live on The World for the whole year, but there are also those, who opt for seasonal stays. The community on board thus remains dynamic and ever-changing.

Cape Town is a popular destination for The World. Residents have visited here on 7 previous occasions.
