The WHO for the sub-Saharan African region, has congratulated African Governments for the role they played in helping eradicate the continent of polio.
The Africa Regional Certification Commission declared Africa free from wild polio, in August this year, saying that 25 years ago, thousands of children across the continent were still affected by the virus.
WHO regional director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, says the disease is now only found in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Moeti says polio-vaccination campaigns continued across the continent, during the covid-19 pandemic.
