Residents have been invited to comment on the concept design for a new law enforcement training college in Muizenberg.
The purpose of the project is to develop a new facility that will accommodate the training requirements for the City of Cape Town’s new Safety and Security directorate in the long term. It will also serve training requirements on a local, provincial and national level.
The existing property, known as Die Burger Strandhuis, consists of several single level buildings, paved areas, outdoor play areas and equipment and a water feature.
The City says it has become derelict in recent years, but is ideal for the expanding training needs of the directorate.
The Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says it’s important for staff to remain up to date with all legislative requirements, and remain competent through refresher training and workshops.
The 1,13 hectare site borders existing public open spaces, roads and road reserves on all sides and is ideally situated close to transport infrastructure.
The proposed upgrade to the facility will comprise the following elements, among others:
- Three new auditoriums
- Eight new Lecture Rooms
- Library
- Swimming Pool
- Dormitories and ablutions
- A new gym
- Boardrooms
- Admin Block
- Social/Recreational spaces
Smith says they would like the input from residents about the new law enforcement college.
This is an opportunity for residents to have their say and have their voices heard. Now is the time to submit your considered and informed inputs. We want to hear from our residents, so don’t miss this opportunity.
An open day will be held on Wednesday, 18 October between 13:00 and 18:30 at the site, Die Burger Strandhuis, corner of Bath and Margate Roads, Muizenberg.
