It’s Cape Town Carnival Weekend!

Published on

The streets in Green Point will be lit up this week as it’s time for Cape Town Carnival again. The Fan Walk will see more than 1 400 performers from different communities across the city dance and perform, in front of thousands of locals and visitors.

The mass event is a colourful celebration of Cape Town’s cultural heritage. It brings massive floats and costumes to the main road in Green Point.

Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC, Anroux Marais, said:

“Major sporting and cultural events play an important role in boosting the province’s economy and creating jobs.”

The parade starts at 6pm with a pre-programme, while the main performers will be on the road from 7pm.

Carnival’s Theme This Year

The theme for carnival’s 2024 edition is “lekker”. It promises to be a tasty treat for the spectators while at the same time, staying true to its traditions.

MEC Marias added, ”We are blessed to have the beautiful settings that we have to bring in sporting and cultural tourists from across the world.”

Several other events will also be taking place in the month of March in the Mother City.
