iSmile Report – Thanks for Elon Musk, our future WiFi is coming from space

Published on

If you think your fiber internet is fast now … wait till Elon Musk brings you WiFi directly from outer space?

His company Space-X is getting ready for yet another groundbreaking launch next week.

On Wednesday, Elon is launching dozens of satellites into low-Earth orbit as part of his ambitious Starlink project – global internet unlike anything we can imagine.

And the reason he wants to beam internet to us from space is because photons move up to 50% faster in a vacuum, compared to optic cables; that’s like broadband fiber on steroids:

Space-X has been testing this type of broadband internet with two satellites currently in space, but next week they are adding more.

The aim is to eventually have more than 12 000 orbiting the earth and providing the service that Elon just described.

But you know, we hear from Elon a lot.

He actually has a right-hand man at Space-X that helps him to realise all of this high-stakes space adventures.

And her name is Gwynne Shotwell, the president and COO of Space-X.

She says their goals are possible, simply because Elon has his hands in so many pies – Space-X, Tesla, Solar City and The Boring Company, which is looking at digging tunnels for super-fast underground transportation…

So yes, the woman in charge of our most-celebrated space company is named Shotwell; fittingly ironic.

And if she lives up to that surname, the rocket launches planned for this year will go off without a hitch.

And we’ll all soon be surfing high speed internet from anywhere on earth … and in deep space.
