Gauteng suffered an estimated R3.5-billion in damage in the recent violent protests and looting

Published on

Gauteng Premier David Makhura says the preliminary estimate is that Gauteng suffered about R3.5-billion in damage due to the recent unrest and looting.

Makhura says most of the estimated amount is due to damage to buildings and goods looted.

He says the amount, however, does not include the damage to uninsured businesses in rural areas.

No factories were looted in Gauteng, but at least 30 shopping centers were looted and damaged.
