Four alleged pick-pocketing suspects have been arrested on Signal Hill. SANParks says the arrests on Tuesday follow a focused operation by its Sea, Air and Mountain (or SEAM) Team.
SANParks Head of Communications JP Louw says they took action after a number of pickpocketing incidents were reported to them. He says the suspects pretended to be park visitors.
The suspects were closely monitored for several hours until they attempted to steal a cell phone from one of the park visitors. The SEAM Team members reacted and all four suspects were apprehended while attempting to flee.
Louw says the case has been reported to the South African Police Services at the Cape Town Police Station.
Signal Hill is popular with visitors who want to take in the spectacular sunset, and large crowds regularly bring their picnic blankets to take in the stunning vistas.
Louw has however urged park users to exercise caution while engaging in outdoor activities, and to remain vigilant to potential threats.
SANParks has these tips for mountain lovers:

- Secure Your Valuables: Do not leave your valuables unattended. Keep your belongings secure on your person at all times, and consider using anti-theft bags or pouches.
- Report Suspicious Activity: If you observe any suspicious behavior or feel uncomfortable, please report it to park rangers or local authorities immediately on 086 110 6417. Your vigilance can help keep the park safe for everyone.
