On the first Friday of October it’s World Smile Day – an annual tradition started by none other than Harvey Ball, the artist who created the smiley face in 1963.
Later in his life, Ball became concerned about the over-commercialization of his symbol. He felt the original meaning and intent of his creation had become lost. Out of that concern World Smile Day was born. He thought we should all devote one day each year to smiles and kind acts around the globe. The smiley face knows no politics, no geography and no religion. Harvey’s idea was that for at least one day each year, neither should we. Ever since the first World Smile Day was held in 1999, it has continued every year in Harvey’s hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts and all over the world.
Ter viering van hierdie mooi dag en idee het Bekkig die kleinspan in Durbanville Voorbereiding gevra wat hulle laat glimlag. Die antwoorde was natuurlik kostelik.
Geniet en smile!
