The DHL Stormers support Blood Cancer Awareness programmes. This week, the local sports stars joined forces with DKMS Africa to raise awareness of blood cancers and disorders. The urgent need for stem cell donations was also highlighted.
Blood Cancer Awareness
In a show of solidarity, DHL Stormers Players registered to become potential stem cell donors at a DKMS Africa engagement held at their training facility in Cape Town on Tuesday.
At the same time, the rugby union club is leveraging its platform to encourage fans and the community to become donors. This will significantly impact the fight against blood cancer.
The fight against blood cancer
DKMS Africa’s Head of Community Engagement and Communications, Palesa Mokomele says this initiative marks a positive shift in the organisation’s growth.
“We hope that through the DHL Stormers taking charge and supporting our cause, more people will be moved to register to become stem cell donors and thus positively impact the number of blood cancer patients’ lives we can potentially save through transplant”.
Also, the DHL Stormers Head of Player Affairs, Duncan Cruickshank, emphasised the importance of the initiative.
“We are more than just a sports team; we are part of this community.”

Cruickshank says blood cancers and disorders touch the lives of many people. He says they must use their platform to support those battling these illnesses.
“We hope our voice will inspire others to step up and help,” he concluded.
It’s being reported that the club’s involvement has already ignited conversations among fans, with players leading by example.

Become stem cell donors
DHL Stormers player and DKMS Africa ambassador, Seabelo Senatla says they’ve always had the support of their fans and now it’s their turn to support a cause that can save lives.
Senatla says, “Being able to make a lifesaving difference is something truly special”.
The club’s commitment to the cause highlights the powerful role sports organisations can play in raising awareness and driving meaningful change in communities. By rallying behind blood cancer awareness, they are not just scoring points on the field, but also in the hearts of those affected.
