Contentious petrol price increase leaves SA with mixed feelings

Published on

The Road Freight Association says South Africa should reduce it’s reliance on foreign crude oil supply, and come to an agreement with African oil-producing states, in a bid to reduce fuel costs for locals. The RFA says calls for the taxes on fuel to be reduced or removed will not resolve the underlying issues, which include the basic price of oil – determined outside of South Africa.
Meanwhile: Premier Allan Winde says skyrocketing fuel prices have a knock-on effect on many other things:

At the same time: Agri-SA has called on government to consider increasing the diesel rebate for farmers, to buffer food price increases following last night’ fuel hike. In the agricultural sector, a certain percentage of producers’ fuel, qualifies for this rebate, and of that portion 100% is exempt from the Road Accident Fund Levy, and 40% from the Fuel Levy.

Staying with the topic: Some good news for Mother City commuters as Golden Arrow Bus Services again announced, it would not increase its bus fares.
