Does a patty a burger make? Well, Burger King Thailand has sparked a debate after launching its ”Real Cheese Burger” over the weekend, and the reviews have largely been one of disbelief.
The burger, layered with a whopping 20 slices of cheese (and nothing else), has been described as revolting by some social media users, while others questioned whether any digestive system would be able to handle so much dairy at once.
It is certainly the worst nightmare for the lactose intolerant among us.
According to the Cambridge dictionary the definition of a “burger” is “meat or other food made into a round, fairly flat shape, fried and usually eaten between two halves of a bread roll.” So is meat a must in a burger?
At first it appeared to be a prank, after videos of the cheesy monstrosity appeared on TikTok, but Burger King Thailand confirmed on Facebook that the creation was indeed real.
Not for fun, this is for real!
Real cheeseburger from Burger King! 🍔
Carrying up to 20 slices of American cheese!!! 🧀
Price is 109 only. – (from normal 380. -)
The creation (which appears not be be grilled) sells for a reduced price of 109 Thai baht (roughly $3.10) versus the regular cheeseburger that goes for 380 baht.
TikTokers have been rushing to buy the meatless sandwich to post their reviews of the viral hit.
@chompu1003 Real cheese butger king 🤣🤣#cheese #burgerking #burger
It also caused a stir on Twitter as the trend spread far and wide.
A trend in #Thailand is to put cheese on literally everything. Now Burger King has joined in with the Real Cheese Burger. Though I think they forgot the meat.
I love cheese but I struggled eating even half of this “burger”. Maybe I should grill the other half? What do you think? pic.twitter.com/dg7wDCSCCw

It’s unclear whether the menu item will prove popular enough to become a mainstay, but surely all that cheese can’t be good for ones health.
Would you indulge in this? Or is it a trend too far? Maybe it would be tastier as a grilled cheese sandwich.
