#BETHECHANGE FOR SAFER ROADS

Published on

The Department of Transport and Public Works has launched a new project, which encourages road users to#BeTheChange that they want to see on Western Cape roads.

This means all road users must take personal responsibility for their behaviour on the roads so that our roads are safer for everyone.

The Acting Director of Traffic Law Enforcement Vigie Chetty says road users shoild be responsible for their own safety and the safety of every other road user.

“They can do this by not drinking and driving, by buckling up in the front and back at all times, by not using a cell phone while driving, by driving and walking carefully and considerately, and by always remaining within the speed limit.”

The good news is that we can all set an example of safe pedestrian, passenger and driver behaviour. Many road users, especially children, learn from the examples they see. If you practice unsafe pedestrian behaviour like jaywalking or walking on freeways, people will see you and may follow your example.

Keep yourself safe. Model good road safety behaviour. This could encourage others to learn good road safety habits. Encourage the people you know to also be responsible road users.
