Bailey’s Hi-5: 5 Ways Not to Overindulge This Easter

Published on

It’s Easter Sunday this coming Sunday and that normally means we eat our body weight in chocolate Easter eggs and hot cross buns.  If you are wanting to be a little healthier this year, here are 5 tips

  1. Quality not Quantity. Don’t bulk buy – go for a small amount of good quality chocolate rather than lots of poor quality chocolate. Chocolate is good for you, with it’s antioxidants, but that’s usually the dark kind that has less sugar. 70% and above is good.
  2. Try to keep Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns for Easter Sunday only. The lead up to Easter can be a great excuse, but if you want to beat the Easter bulge, ignore the bakery until you need to buy – closer to Sunday.
  3. Keep Easter Eggs for dessert only. I know it’s tempting to have Easter eggs for Breakfast, but eating that amount of sugar on an empty stomach is only going to make your blood sugar and your moods yo-yo! Save them for dessert. Once you’ve eaten a protein based, healthy meal – which will fill you up, you’re less likely to gorge yourself on Easter eggs.
  4. Switch it up.Why not buy kids a few chocolate Easter Eggs and then do some non-edible gifts. A friend found some hollowed out plastic eggs and is going to put little toy cars inside, or little glitter hair clips for girls. It’s still something fun, but without the sugar rush.
  5. Get Active. On Sunday after you’ve had your Easter lunch and gorged yourself in Easter eggs and hot cross buns, make it a rule that the whole family has to get active – either putting on some music and tidying up in a dance off,  or going for a walk around the block. You’ll feel so much better.
