When the news first surfaced about the Vision Pro at Apple’s WWDC event, it left attendees in awe for two reasons: the incredible tech that they managed to squeeze into this compact headset…and the price is set to around $3500! Let that sink it for a second.

What is the vision behind the Vision Pro?
Now when I heard about this new Apple headset and what it would retail for, I thought there is no way – even if I had the cash – I would splash out R100k. Think about the back-breaking import costs that will come with such a headset. But after my chat with Theunis – I am starting to why it is on the upper end of the tech (and price) scale.
The breakthrough design of the Vision Pro features an ultra-high-resolution display system that packs 23 million pixels across two displays. A custom Apple silicon (series of ARM-based systems-on-a-chip (SoCs) designed by Apple Inc.) in a unique dual-chip design. This ensures that each experience feels like it’s taking place in front of your eyes in real-time. This is the start of all our Ready, Player One dreams!

In a nutshell, with these goggles poised comfortably on your face, you are not blinded to the world around you. You are still able to see your surroundings, while interacting with a top-end computer right in front of your eyes. Using nothing but your hands to control everything. And Apple has cracked the code with the right mix of AR (Augmented reality) and AI (Artificial intelligence).
After sitting and listening to Theunis talk about Apple’s new super-powered headset, I do feel that we are heading into a rather interesting future. And if I could get my hands on one of these spatial computers, I most certainly would!
