Alleged Parliament arsonist Zandile Mafe has started his 30-day mental observation at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital.

A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Eric Ntabazalila, says Mafe, who face several charges including terrorism, arson and theft, appeared in court earlier this week, where the magistrate made the order for him to be admitted for observation. Mafe’s legal representative says his client has started with a hunger strike. The matter has been postponed to 11 February.
