Cape Town is gearing up for a busy week of events, including concerts, rugby action, grassroots football and running events.
The City’s Events Permit Office has permitted and will be monitoring at least 27 events going into the long Easter weekend.
Approximately 100,000 people are expected at the events taking place in Cape Town this week and leading into the extended weekend.
“As Cape Town prepares for a dynamic week of events leading into the Easter long weekend, the City is placing the highest priority on public safety. The Events Permitting Office, working closely with our Safety and Security Directorate agencies, ensures that all events meet strict safety and compliance standards. Our coordinated approach is designed to protect residents, visitors, and event participants alike. With increased activity across the city, we are committed to maintaining order, minimising risk, and creating a safe environment where everyone can enjoy Cape Town’s vibrant events responsibly and with peace of mind,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
Around 22,000 people will descend on DHL Stadium tomorrow, Wednesday 16 April, for world-renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli’s 30th anniversary concert.
Accompanied by a 60-piece choir, a 69-piece orchestra, a special guest artist and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Bocelli will take to the stage at 20:00 for the two-hour long concert.
Gates to the stadium open at 17:00.
A free MyCiTi shuttle will operate between the Civic Centre station and the Green Point Precinct for ticketholders from 17:00.

Bayhill Premier Cup
Erica Park Stadium in Belhar will host the 36th edition of the Bayhill Premier Cup preliminary and knockout rounds from 16 – 20 April.
Over the Easter long weekend, 32 teams from the Western Cape, the rest of South Africa and abroad will battle it out for the chance to contend for the title of 2025 Bayhill Cup champions.
On Monday 21 April, Athlone Stadium will host the finals where three titles, including the Roger Clayton Trophy, will be contested by six clubs who make it through the group and knockout stages.
Tickets for the group stages will be sold at the gate at Erica Park Stadium while tickets for the finals at Athlone are on sale at Webtickets.
Lebo M Concert
Grammy Award Winning singer, songwriter and producer Lebo M brings the voice and spirit of The Lion King to the Mother City on Friday 18 April.
With long-time collaborator Hans Zimmer as special guest, Lebo M (born Lebohang Morake) will play selections from films such as The Power of One, The Lion King Motion Picture 1994, The Lion King Broadway Show, the 2019 Lion King Live Action and the most recent music 2024’s live action Mufasa.

The two-hour show, taking place at Grand Arena in Grand West, starts at 19:00.

Easter Rugby Tournament in Khayelitsha
The City will provide support to the 27th Annual Igugu loMbhoxo Easter Tournament taking place at the Khayelitsha Rugby Stadium. The tournament will feature 28 senior men’s teams from Cape Town, the Eastern Cape and one from the North West for the four-day event taking place from 18 – 21 April. It will also feature a competition for juniors and women’s teams.
DHL Stormers
The DHL Stormers are returning to DHL Stadium for the first time since early February to face Irish side Connacht on Saturday 19 April.
With the game scheduled for a 16:00 kick off, gates to the stadium will open at 14:00.
Spectators are advised that the free MyCiTi shuttle will be operational to take ticketholders from Civic Centre and Thibault Square to the stadium station.
The first bus will leave the Civic Centre station at 13:30 with the last bus leaving the stadium station at 20:00 post-game.
There will be free parking available at the Civic Centre for ticket holders from 13:00.
The parking bays, accessible from Hertzog Boulevard incoming and on Civic Road, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Paid parking is also available at the Parkalot on Jack Craig Street and at the Harbour Arch on Harbour Arch Boulevard.
Richmond Corner 10km/5km
The Velocity Athletic Club is hosting the Richmond Corner 10km/5km, a community running event not only promoting health and fitness but serving as a showcase of the neighbourhood of Richwood. The races will start at 07:30 on Saturday19 April 2025.
With an anticipated field of 800 runners, the event will attract competitive runners, social runners and youth from all across the city.
Trinitarians U/14 Easter Tournament
From 19 – 21 April, 32 grassroots football teams will be playing for the right to be crowned Trinitarians U/14 Easter Tournament champions for 2025. In its 17th year, the tournament is a prestigious event and is a recruiting platform for talent scouts from professional clubs.
Approximately 640 players from clubs based in the metro will get the opportunity to showcase their talent at the Symphony Park in Belhar. Tickets for the tournament will be sold at the gate.
Velocity Family Day 21km.5km Road Running Event
The 8th annual Velocity Family Day 21km/5km takes place on 21 April 2025 in Atlantis.
Starting at the Atlantis City Mall at 07:00, the races provide athletes with a platform to adopt a healthy and fit lifestyle while also raising awareness for local charities or community initiatives.
The Half Marathon, the flagship event race, is open to runners older than 16 years old. The 5km fun run/walk is open to all members of the family older than 9 years old.
