Cape Town to shine in biographical drama on Milli Vanilli

Get ready to be transported back to the late ’80s and early ’90s with Girl, You Know It’s True. The biographical drama depicting the rise and fall of one of pop music’s most iconic duos, Milli Vanilli.

 

Shot against the backdrop of Cape Town, the film delves into the infamous scandal that shook the music industry.

Tijan Njie and Elan Ben Ali portray the journey of two struggling dancers. From their breakthrough with hits like “Girl You Know It’s True” to the pinnacle of success with a Grammy win, and the subsequent revelation of lip-syncing – the film offers a look into the highs and lows of the music business.

 

 

Matthias Schweighöfer takes on the role of hit producer, Frank Farian. Meanwhile, Director Simon Verhoeven brings the enthralling story to life.

 

According to film distributor, FilmFinity, filming not only showcased the beauty of the Mother City but boosted the local economy as well.

 

“The production employed numerous South African crew members and collaborated with local businesses, contributing significantly to the regional film industry. Cape Town’s diverse and vibrant scenery plays a crucial role in the film, adding authenticity and depth to the storytelling.”

 

Several South Africans were named in the movie, such as Natasha Loring, Andrew Roux, Ashley Dowds, and David Chevers.

 

As 21 June draws near, audiences can anticipate a cinematic experience that tells the heartwarming, poignant, shocking story of German R&B group, Milli Vanilli.
