Magashule launches new political party

Published on

Former African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General, Ace Magashule, has announced the formation of a new political party. The African Congress for Transformation (ACT) was launched in Soweto today.

The former head of Hawks, General Berning Ntlemeza has joined Magashule in this new venture. In 2017, Ntlemeza was ousted after a court ruling stated that his appointment as head of Hawks was irrational.

The party will unveil its manifesto and leadership at a conference in October. Magashule says ACT will work with progressive structures. While addressing the media at the unveiling of the political party, Magashule says South Africans need an alternative political home.

The slogan of the African Congress for Transformation is “solidarity, freedom, and prosperity”. Magashuke says this new party will be a ship for the hopeless and betrayed.

“A party for the people, by the people.”

Magashule expelled from the ANC

The former ANC secretary general was expelled from the party in June of this year after failing to make representations to the national disciplinary committee to provide reasons as to why his membership shouldn’t be revoked.

He was given seven days to make representations of why the National Disciplinary Committee should not expel him over its finding that he had violated several sections of the ANC constitution.

These violations include his attempt to unilaterally suspend ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa in 2021.
