Is rape culture endemic to South Africans

Published on

A professor of Philosophy at Stellenbosch University says rape culture is endemic in South Africa, and the underlying violent behaviour which fuels it needs to be addressed. The recent gang rape of 8 women in Krugersdorp has been described as nothing short of the shame of the nation, and it has sparked protests against illegal miners, who have been accused of waging a campaign of terror against residents on the West Rand. Statistics show that more than 100 rapes occur each day, with numbers higher than some countries at war. Professor Louise du Toit says for perpetrators it’s about power.
