SA needs 50,000 MW – equal to replacing its entire fleet – to cover the energy supply

SA needs to add a whopping 50 000 MW – equal to replacing its entire fleet – of additional generation capacity to the national transmission grid over the next 13 years to cover the energy supply gap and replace retiring coal stations. So says Eskom chief operating officer Jan Oberholzer. Eskom’s entire fleet has a capacity of around 45 000 MW.
