The commission had approached the court to seek an order that Zuma was in contempt of court and should be jailed, if guilty. The commission’s secretary Itumeleng Mosala says it views the judgment as one of great importance for the rule of law, the principle of equality before the law and the protection of constitutional democracy. He says it’s also significant for the independence of the judiciary. Meanwhile, the DA, IFP, UDM & civil society organisations, Casac and Outa have lauded the ruling, saying it’s a clear indication that no one is above the law.
