Fugard Theatre announces permanent closure

Published on

The historic Fugard Theatre has announced that it will be closing down permanently.

Fugard Theatre Founder and producer Eric Abraham released a statement online confirming the news yesterday.

He says due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, they don’t see the theatre being financially viable to reopen in the foreseeable future.

The theatre will now be handed back to the board of The District 6 Museum, to be used as a working theatre. He says it’s a sad day for South African theatre.
