The World Health Organisation for the African Region, says it is engaging with member countries to help ready healthcare systems for the roll-out of mass covid-19 vaccination programs.
Regional Director for the WHO Africa, Matshidiso Moeti, says in a survey done among 44 of 47 African countries, countries are only about 33% ready for such a campaign.
Moeti says an 80% readiness-target is needed, to see that vaccination-programs are successful and effective.
Moetis says because communities played an important role in preventing the spread of covid-19, they will also play a vital role in seeing that vaccination-programmes are successful. T
She says African-governments should engage with their citizens before, during and after covid-19 vaccination campaigns, so that the vaccine reaches those who need it most.
Moeti says it is important that citizens are given a voice in the process of developing and implementing vaccination campaigns.
