50 days to Netball World Cup

Published on

Friday, 9 June 2023 marks 50 days to go until the first whistle is blown at the Netball World Cup 2023.

All matches will be played at the CTICC in Cape Town from 28 July – 6 August 2023.

South Africa will play their first match against Wales on the opening day.

This will be the first time that the tournament will be hosted on African soil.

As part of the build-up to the event, a trophy tour will take place across the Western Cape from 3-7 July 2023. The trophy is currently touring the rest of SA.

This tour will see the trophy travelling to communities across the province, from the Garden Route, Central Karoo, Overberg, Cape Winelands and the West Coast, until the trophy makes its final stop in Cape Town.

Netball South Africa President Cecilia Molokwane says the Netball World Cup should be an African spectacle, showcasing our culture and our uniqueness as South Africa.

We want to leave a legacy. Hosting the Netball World Cup is a first for Africa, so history will be made right here on home soil and right on our doorstep.

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport will also be supporting municipalities in hosting fan zones and viewing centres across the province so that communities will be able to watch matches where ever they are.

MEC Anroux Marais has called on everyone in the Western Cape to help build excitement and to show our Proteas netball team that we are all backing them to keep the trophy in South Africa.

We are expecting large numbers of travelling fans but we would like the people of the Western Cape to bring the unique gees that we have seen in the past. Whether you are attending matches in person, watching at a fan zone or viewing centre or supporting from home, let us bring the energy to help our team across the line!
